After going through the presentation, I was reminded that loss is not only about death, but also includes things like the loss of independence, health, or a role in life. I found the stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance) particularly powerful, especially in understanding how different people cope in their own time and way. It made me reflect on how important it is for nurses to offer emotional presence, not just medical care, during these sensitive times. One insight I gained is the value of active listening just being present with someone who is grieving can be more comforting than trying to “fix” their pain. I also realized how vital it is to be aware of cultural differences in how people experience and express grief.
