Loss , grief and dying

Every individual will someday experience these events throughout their lifetime. From the loss of an object or a loved one. Causing an individual to go through the process of grief , grief may take weeks or even years and may not even be a constant. It can come in waves where one day the individual may not feel that loss whereas on a random day something may remind the individual of what they have lost , triggering the grief and other emotions.

When dealing with patients and loss it can be difficult as a nurse. The family hasn’t only lost a loved one but the nurse has also lost a patient. It is important to always remember that death is a natural occurrence that one cannot control. Supporting the family is very important in this time , even if it’s just use of body language or possibly referring to a social worker for more help with dealing with the loss.
