Loss is when someone close is taken away from you permanently, it affects you emotionally, physically. As a nurse it is my duty to reassure and assist families to cope with different types of loss by providing psychological and emotional support.
The emotional response to loss is called grief. Anger, confusion, sadness are all signs of grief. As a nurse I'm expected to offer empathetic support and grief education to my patients and their families.
The final phase of life is dying. Nurses should offer support and dignity to the patient and family. Patients deserve palliative care, for them to die peacefully without pain and they deserve to be treated with respect even after death.
