This short learning intervention will focus on the recognition and management of Behavioral Emergencies. By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define a Behavioral Emergency and use various terminology related to these types of emergencies;
- Cite relevant parts of the Mental Health Care Act (South Africa) pertaining to Behavioral Emergencies;
- Develop a safe plan to approach Behavioral Emergencies and implement De-Escalation procedures;
- Develop and implement a plan to safely restrain a patient (physical restraint);
- Discuss various options and considerations to safely sedate a patient (chemical restraint);
- Identify various disposition procedures for patients suffering from a Behavioral Emergencies;
- Complete the relevant documentation and records.
